Writing Vivid Memoirs: A Master Class in Bringing Stories to Life

A 10-Week Online Memoir Writing Workshop

Tuesdays, July 2 - September 3 | 6-9 pm

Embark on a 10-week literary adventure into the heart of memoir writing with a dynamic workshop designed for dedicated writers eager to bring their book-length narratives to life. Transform your writing journey by honing your unique storytelling angle, sculpting the structure, and fine-tuning your voice and highlighting your discoveries to stand out in the memoir landscape.

Each session will unfold the secrets of crafting compelling memoirs through class discussions on thematic depth, innovative structures, and vivid character portrayals. Dive into the art of balancing scene with summary, mastering time and pacing, and shaping a narrative arc that captivates from the first page to the last. We’ll also venture into the crucial aspects of research, and navigate the ethical terrain of recounting real-life experiences.

Get inspired by the genius of renowned memoirists and essayists, from the raw honesty of Jeannette Walls to the adventurous spirit of Cheryl Strayed, the poignant reflections of Malcolm X with Alex Haley, to the courageous introspection of Tara Westover.

Not only will you receive personalized feedback on your submissions, but you’ll also sharpen your critical eye by engaging with your peers’ works. Whether you’re looking to breathe new life into an existing manuscript or turn around your book-in-progress, this workshop is your gateway to transforming your memories into a vibrant memoir. Join us and unfold the story only you can tell.

+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur ONLINE via Zoom. Students do not need to create an account to participate, but should test out Zoom before their class if they are first-time users. The week of the workshop, students will be emailed a link that they may click to enter the class.
